Highers - AABB

A minimum of 4 Highers at AABB over one or two sittings (over S4-S6). This must include any two sciences from Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Human Biology and Physics or; National Certificate Level 6 Applied Sciences Group award, to be achieved with 18 credits plus a science Higher at grade A achieved over one academic session and accompanied by a suitable reference from course tutor.

National 5s: English and Maths are required (Grade B minimum); Biology and Physics are recommended but not compulsory (Grade B minimum). A combination of Grade A & B passes at Standard Grade / National 5 is expected, especially in science subjects.

A levels: BBC including B in Biology or Chemistry. Applicants with predicted or achieved grades of AAB or above, or with A in Chemistry, are not eligible for this course.

Advanced Higher: BB including Biology or Chemistry, and Standard Level: BBBBC. Applicants with achieved or predicted Advanced Higher grades of AA, or with Chemistry at an A grade, are not eligible for this course.

4 (C) in GCSE Maths or equivalent (Standard numeracy requirement) and 4 (C) in GCSE English or equivalent (Standard literacy requirement). 

29 points overall, including 5 at Higher Level in Biology or Chemistry. Applicants with predicted or achieved grades of 33 points overall including 16 at Higher Level, or with 6 at Higher Level in Chemistry, are not eligible for this course.

A minimum of an upper second class Honours degree in a non-science subject is required to allow consideration.

Widening Access applicants:

BBC at A-Level (A2), to include chemistry and another science subject.

ABBB / BBBBB grades at Higher, to include chemistry and another science subject.

The other three Highers can be your own choice and this will not influence assessment.

Applicants with a non-science background:

AAA grades at A level (A2), to include no more than one science subject excluding chemistry.

AAAAB grades at Higher, to include no more than one science subject, excluding chemistry.

Previous achievement will be taken into account

37 points, to include 6,6,6 at Higher level. Subjects at Higher level should include no more than one science and exclude Chemistry. Plus three subjects at Standard Level with an average of grade 6.

Grades BBB at A Level are required. These must include Biology and Chemistry and one other subject. While Biology and Chemistry are both required at Grade B or above, where Grade A or A* is achieved in either Biology or Chemistry (or both Biology and Chemistry), the third A Level subject will be accepted at Grade C or above. A Levels in General Studies, Critical Reasoning, Citizenship and Key Skills will not be accepted.

A Level / BTEC Combination: BB at A level and D in single BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma or National Award. BB at A level must be obtained in both Chemistry and Biology and D in BTech Diploma.

You will also need at least five GCSEs at Grade B or Grade 6 or above (or equivalent) at the time of application, including Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Mathematics. GCSE Double Science Awards, at Grades 6-6 or B-B or above, will also be accepted in lieu of separate GCSEs in Biology and Chemistry.

32 points to include Chemistry and Biology at higher level, one other subject at higher level and three standard level subjects. Each subject must be passed with a minimum of 5 points.

BBB or ABC in any subjects, excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking. Science A levels must include a pass in the practical element (English Exam Boards only).

Six GCSEs at grade B/6 or above, including English Language, Mathematics and either a single science subject (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) or double science.

32 points including three subjects at Higher Level 5 in any subject.

Minimum of Scottish Higher of AABB* (allowance may be given for individual circumstances) or equivalent from S5 (we require three Highers to be sciences. One Higher may be crashed in S6 and we allow for one of the sciences to be a resit. Subjects before starting the GAP programme must include Biology and any two of Chemistry, Physics or Maths). Candidates in S6 will be expected to pass all courses undertaken in their S6 programme of study, with a minimum of grade C in Advanced Highers, and would be required as a condition within any offer. Please note that the programme is aimed primarily at S6 students, although individual consideration can be allowed for S5 in exceptional circumstances only - please get in touch to check these before you apply.

The A-Level requirement is BBC-ABB at A-Level including both Biology and Chemistry at a minimum Grade B with a pass in the science practicals if certified separately. A-Levels should normally be completed within a 3-year period.

If studying the BTEC Extended National Diploma in Applied Science (Biomedical Science) we require Distinction-Distinction-Distinction (DDD).

If studying Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers we require Scottish Highers BBBBC to include Biology and Chemistry plus Advanced Highers CC in Biology and Chemistry. We will also accept Scottish Highers BBBCC to include Biology and Chemistry plus Advanced Highers of BCC

5 GCSEs grade 9/A*- 4/C or equivalent including English Language grade 4/C and Mathematics grade 4/ C or above or equivalent. Resits are accepted to achieve the required grades.

29 points with 14 at Higher Level to include Biology and Chemistry at grade 5.

A-Level BBC to include biology or chemistry. Science A-Levels must include the practical endorsement.

Highers BBBBB to be achieved before applying. Advanced Highers BB including biology or chemistry.

T-Level M (minimum B in core component) in health science, health or science.

BTEC level-3 extended diploma DDM in applied science, health & social care or sport & exercise science.

GCSE or Scottish National 5: minimum of five at grade 6/B or higher, including combined science or biology, chemistry and physics; English language and maths must be achieved at a minimum of grade 5/C. English language must include the spoken language endorsement at a minimum of pass. All GCSE requirements must be met before applying.

A level: ABB, including Biology & Chemistry, one of which must be offered at A grade. For linear A levels in England, applicants will be required to pass the practical endorsement in all science subjects. A levels in General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Global Perspectives are not accepted.

Grade 6 (B) in both English language and Maths required.

35 points, including 6,5,5 at Higher Level with 6 in either Higher Level Biology or Higher Level Chemistry and 5 at Higher Level in the other. The total point score of 35 includes TOK/EE.

A Levels: ABB in three subjects taken at one sitting, after two years of study, including Biology and Chemistry.

Highers: AABBB in 5 subjects, including Maths, English, Biology and Chemistry plus Advanced Highers: BB in Biology and Chemistry.

GCSE requirements will vary depending on individual circumstance but all applicants must have achieved at least grade B (or grade 6) in Core & Additional Science (or Biology, Chemistry and Physics), Maths and English Language. 

National 5 requirements will vary depending on individual circumstance but all applicants must have achieved at least grade B in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Mathematics.

32 points overall, including at least 5,5,6 in three higher level subjects and at least 5 in three standard level subjects.  HL subjects must include both Biology and Chemistry.
