The Beit Trust's Medical Elective Bursaries are available for students undertaking medical electives in southern Africa between 1 April of each year and 1 April of each following year.
To be eligible, you must be in the penultimate or final year of your medical degree and planning to undertake an elective of six weeks duration in Zambia, Zimbabwe or Malawi as part of your course. (Some universities may only allow a four week elective. In this case applications for a shorter period will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
The Beit Trust is keen to encourage more applicants to undertake their medical elective in Zimbabwe. Since elective and administrative costs in Zimbabwe are sometimes higher than in other countries, larger grants may be awarded. The Trust particularly encourages applications from those wishing to undertake their electives at rural mission hospitals.
The next application window for electives taking place within 1st April 2023 and 1st April 2024 will open in September 2022. Please do check this page nearer this date for application forms.
If you have any questions about the application process please contact Fahmida Yasmin on fahmida.yasmin[at]medschools.ac.uk
